"Declare the past, diagnose the present,
foretell the future; practice these acts.
As to diseases, make a habit of two things -
to help, or at least to do no harm."Hippocrates

BrainGuide Design Philosophy and Overview
» |
BrainGuide™, part of the Galileo™
medical imaging software suite developed by Advanced Biologic Corp. (Toronto,
Ontario, Canada) for the low-cost, high-performance Windows PC platform is a set of
advanced brain image analysis modules. The design of BrainGuide, guided by
Hippocrate’s instruction, follows six key principles:
Fast. BrainGuide should complete all image analyses fast enough to be
both practical and useful in a clinical environment (all BrainGuide analyses are completed
in 30 seconds or less).
Automatic. BrainGuide should robustly perform all image analyses
automatically requiring only “one-mouse-click” by the user.
Accurate. BrainGuide image analysis should meet or exceed the clinical
“gold-standards” of accuracy.
Robust. BrainGuide should successfully process all clinical images regardless of
the severity of any disease-induced defects. Including, but not limited to
- Alzheimer’s Disease,
- Stenosis,
- Tumor,
- Hematoma,
- Stroke
Clinically Safe. Unlike current brain imaging research software (SPM 99, AIR,
and others) the original clinical images are never modified in BrainGuide, via brain
warping and / or other spatial transformations. This eliminates the danger of introducing
algorithm-generated image artifacts into the processed image, which could mislead the
clinical radiologist into making a misdiagnosis.
Clinically Friendly. BrainGuide should be simple, easy, and intuitive to use.
