MDX receives FDA clearance for PACS system incorporating Wireless

Oakville, Ontario, August 22, 2005

MDX Corporation has received FDA clearance for the marketing and sales of the Insight™ PACS/RIS System in the United States. This is a major step for the company – the Insight solution is now available for hospitals and clinics in the world’s leading healthcare market. The clearance is also a significant endorsement of the Insight system and its support of wireless and remote devices.

Insight™ is the first PACS/RIS system cleared to market by the US FDA that includes wireless or mobile handheld devices that function as full-featured clinical workstations – with access to all image data at full-resolution and access to all necessary tools, even for volume reconstructions and 3D analysis. 24/7 access to all necessary patient information at all locations is expected to transform workflows within healthcare enterprises and to improve patient care.

Zoran Popovic, President and CEO of MDX, explains, “For us this is a significant step towards realizing our vision of pervasive healthcare IT systems. We can now give clinicians a liberating choice – unfettered access to the systems they rely on daily. No other PACS/RIS systems on the market can offer such functionality.”

The clearance granted by the FDA covers the complete Insight system, including the innovative architecture of the system, the deployment of wireless and mobile handheld devices as clinical review workstations (PDAs and SmartPhones), the distribution technology (streaming), a number of Clinical Application Modules, and the VPS integration engine, which communicates with existing digital PACS archives. Via the VPS (Virtualized PACS Services), sites that already have digital PACS systems can employ the Insight™ system to easily distribute access to the existing data throughout the enterprise.
